Treating the Stains and Solving the Problem of Hard Water

If you’ve been dealing with hard water stains on a regular basis, you’ll know they are a lot of work. They don’t just come off with regular water cleaners, they keep coming back over and over again, especially here in the Las Vegas area.

When you pull glasses out of the cupboard to have company over, you have to inspect closely for the telltale spots that don’t look good on a dinner table. This can be especially hard here in the Las Vegas Valley, where our water is considered very hard.

However, there it is normally better to work smarter, not harder. We’ll tell you why we have such hard water in the Vegas area, some extra tips on cleaning the stains and how to solve your hard water issues once and for all. After all, unlike some industries, we are Anytime Plumbing, Inc and are all about solutions.

Why Do We Have Such Hard Water in Las Vegas?

hardwaterFirst off, it helps to explain exactly what hard water is. Hard water is the term for water that has higher concentrations of minerals, most notably calcium and magnesium.

It is worth clarifying that there is nothing inherently unhealthy about hard water but it certainly can have some negative side effects, particularly with those stains, the feeling of your skin and hair and buildup in your pipes.

In our area, we have water considered very hard because the Colorado River is exceptionally mineral dense and it carries those minerals into Lake Mead. This makes hard water a fact of life for most residents of the Las Vegas Valley.

How To Get Rid of Hard Water Stains?

The best way to handle stains depends on the surface upon which you find the stain.

One of the most difficult surfaces to handle is the tile, often found in showers, which see a lot of exposure to hard water.

To tackle these stains, the best solution is vinegar. Soak some paper towels in pure vinegar and let them sit on the stains for up to eight hours. Rinse with water, preferably distilled and then scrub with a non-abrasive cleaning pad and those stains will be good as gone.

Solving the Hard Water Problem For Good

Thankfully, there is a good way to address the issue of hard water for the long run, and that is with the use of a water softening system.

These systems run the hard water through a resin bed, normally regenerated regularly with salt, which performs a process called ion exchange. This ion exchange sees the removal of the calcium and magnesium leaving you with undamaging soft water.

These systems are effective and efficient. If you are tired of those terrible hard water stains, the answer can be right in front of you. Feel free to call one of our experts at Anytime Plumbing, Inc.
